Fishing for Energy salvages lost, discarded ocean fishing gear to save sea life

It can take years for lost or discarded crab and lobster pots, nets or fishing line to deteriorate while resting under the sea, and all the while the abandoned gear may still be capturing and killing ocean life.

Avoiding the phenomenon known as “ghost fishing” is one of the main missions of Fishing for Energy, a national program that kicked off its 10th anniversary celebration in Oregon this week.
